about
For an elliptical beam, the page defines the optimal afocal system (made of two lenses) enabling the maximum coupling efficiency in a fiber optic. It calculates the focal lengths of the lenses forming the afocal system, the coupling ratio and the distance between incident and refracted beam waists as functions of the waist widths of the incident beam, the fiber optic mode radius, the transmission coefficient of the system and the distance between lenses. It is assumed that the fiber optic entrance is centered on the propagation axis and is coinciding with the refracted beam waist.
