about
The page calculates the photon noise of a monochromatic wave received by a photodetector. It corresponds to the optical power which signal current is the minimum shot noise current achievable. This minimum shot noise current is obtained with a perfect photodetector (no dark current). The photon noise is calculated as a function of the wavelength, the photodetector bandwidth and the optical power.
